Worker Spraying Airborne Disinfectant in Building

According to the CDC, current evidence suggests that novel coronavirus may remain viable for hours to days on surfaces made from a variety of materials. Although transmission of COVID-19 to a person from a surface has not been documented, the CDC is recommending regular cleaning and disinfecting of all commonly touched surfa   ces as a best practice measure.

Using hospital-grade virucidal disinfectants, ETL has the ability to disinfect your office space. This proposal details the disinfectant deep cleaning process. A virucide is a chemical agent that deactivates and/or destroys viruses.

CORONAVIRUS
Coronaviruses (CoV) are a large family of viruses that cause illness ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-CoV); and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV). A novel coronavirus (nCoV) is a new strain that has not been previously identified in humans. The virus has been named “SARS-CoV-2” and the disease it causes has been named “coronavirus disease 2019” (abbreviated “COVID-19”).

ERADICATION METHOD
Step 1 : Surface wiping of all high-contact areas.
o    All areas of high contact will be cleaned and disinfected with the virucide
o    High contact areas include doors, doorknobs, drawers, drawer handles, countertops, desks, computer mice, keyboards, faucets, telephones, etc.
o    A 5-10-minute dwell time should be allowed post wipe down.

Step 2 : Deep cleaning of concern areas.
o    The Bathrooms will be cleaned "top to bottom" this includes using the virucidal disinfectant to clean all horizontal surfaces, the doors, door handles, urinals, toilets, shelving, cabinets, counters, faucets, sinks, etc. The floors will be mopped with the virucidal disinfectant.
o    The Kitchen (if applicable) will be cleaned "top to bottom" this includes using the virucidal disinfectant to clean all horizontal surfaces, the doors, door handles, cabinets, cabinet handles, drawers, drawer pulls, counters, sink, faucet, stove, refrigerator, microwave, etc. The floors will be mopped with the virucidal disinfectant.

Step 3 :  Ultra Low Volume (ULV) misting/fogging of an affected area with EPA approved hospital grade virucidal disinfectant.
o    The mist/fog will eradicate any aerosolized virus particles.
o    All surfaces, items, walls, floors, etc within the building will be disinfected with the mist/fog.

** There is a minimum 2 hour wait period after the application of the virucidal disinfectant before anyone can reenter the space.
** Upon reentry, all dishes, glasses, food preparation surfaces, etc. must be cleaned with soap and water prior to use.

PERSONAL PROTECTION EQUIPMENT
Technicians are required to don full Level “C” personal protective equipment during the decontamination procedure.
•    Splash resistant coveralls (Tyvek), shoe covers, double gloves, Respirator or PAPR, and eye protection.
•    Coveralls should be decontaminated with sprayer prior to doffing and disposal.

POST-CLEANING PREVENTATIVE MEASURES
The CDC advises that the following precautions are taken to lessen the risk of contracting COVID-19:

There is currently no vaccine to prevent coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The best way to prevent illness is to avoid being exposed to this virus. However, as a reminder, the CDC always recommends everyday preventive actions to help prevent the spread of respiratory diseases, including:

•    Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

•    Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
•    Stay home when you are sick.
•    Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
•    Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
•    Follow CDC’s recommendations for using a facemask.

o    CDC does not recommend that people who are well to wear a facemask to protect themselves from respiratory diseases, including COVID-19.

o    Face masks should be used by people who show symptoms of COVID-19 to help prevent the spread of the disease to others. The use of facemasks is also crucial for health workers and people who are taking care of someone in close settings (at home or in a healthcare facility).

•    Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.

o    If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. Always wash hands with soap and water if hands are visibly dirty.

CORONAVIRUS BACKGROUND INFORMATION :
GENEALOGY
Coronavirus is an RNA based enveloped virus. Enveloped viruses contain a lipid membrane on the cell wall which adheres to the host cell in order to proliferate. This being the case, the cell wall is easily penetrable to most common disinfectants. Common EPA approved disinfectant makeup can be Quaternary Ammonium Compounds, Phenolic Based products and Hydrogen based formulas.
TRANSMISSION OF COVID-19
Coronavirus COVID-19 in most commonly transmitted from person to person, through droplet nuclei spread out from breathing, coughing or sneezing. Droplets can remain suspended in the air for extended periods and are highly respirable. The virus can remain viable on surfaces and fomites for several hours as well. The virus is believed to be most contagious in a person when their symptoms are evident. However, it’s possible that they may be contagious before and after visible signs of symptoms. People who no longer test positive for the virus may still be infectious according to some of the research. Information on the transmission of the Coronavirus COVID-19 is being updated as doctors learn more about the virus and how it spreads. We will continue to provide the most up to date information as quickly as possible.
SYMPTOMS OF COVID-19:
For confirmed coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases, reported illnesses have ranged from mild symptoms to severe illness and death. Symptoms can include:
•    Fever
•    Cough
•    Shortness of breath
The CDC believes at this time that symptoms of COVID-19 may appear in as few as 2 days or as long as 14 days after exposure. This is based on what has been seen previously as the incubation period of MERS-CoV viruses.
